About the Conference
The European Communication Conference 2028 (ECC2028) will bring together scholars and researchers in communication, media and related fields from across Europe and beyond in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The conference will cover a broad spectrum of contemporary communication and media research, ranging from digital and political communication, journalism, social media, audiences and media cultures to communication technologies, artificial intelligence, emerging media ecosystems, visual communication and the public sphere.
It will also address broader questions at the intersection of communication and society, including political polarisation, disinformation, migration, identity, cultural and geopolitical change, and their impact on communication processes. These developments are reshaping not only how we communicate, but also how we understand one another, society and Europe itself. ECC2028 will foster dialogue across theoretical, methodological and geographical perspectives, encouraging interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration to advance our understanding of rapidly changing communication environments and their role in shaping contemporary Europe.
Organised in collaboration with the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA), ECC2028 will provide a space to present cutting-edge research, exchange ideas, build international connections and reflect collectively on how communication is evolving as European societies, technologies and political landscapes undergo profound transformation.
A Central and Eastern European and Baltic Perspective
Vilnius offers more than a geographical setting for the conference. It is a region that has long remained at the margins of European debates, yet is increasingly becoming central to them – a space where diverse historical experiences, cultural trajectories, technological transformations and geopolitical realities intersect. Situated at the geographical edge of Europe, the Baltic region offers a distinctive vantage point from which to reconsider what we mean by Europe – its boundaries, identities, connections and futures. ECC2028 will bring this perspective into the wider European communication research dialogue – not as a peripheral voice, but as an important and integral part of it.
