VU Faculty of Communication invites you to an open lecture "Swedish Performing Arts After #MeToo: The Workplace, Leadership, and the Evolving Discourse", by Prof. Ann Werner from Uppsala University.

Ann Werner is professor in musicology at Uppsala University. She has held positions in gender studies as well as media- and communication studies. She is currently the PI of one research project and one research network. Organisational and social work environment in artistic professions (2025-2027) examining risks and benefits in the work environments of the Swedish arts, and Equality and Nordic Music (2024-2026) gathering researchers from Nordic countries working on equality and the music industry.
Her main research interests are in music, gender, power, and media. She has published widely on for example streaming and algorithmic culture, and gendered uses of music, drawing on feminist theory. Her articles include "Organizing music, organizing gender: Algorithmic culture and Spotify recommendations", Popular Communication (2020) and her latest book is Feminism and Gender Politics in Mediated Popular Music (2022, Bloomsbury Academic). Recently her publications have discussed higher classical music education and the borderlands of Europe, as well as work environment and leadership in the arts.
