On 11-12 October, the Faculty of Communication will host Prof. Magdalena Mateja, researcher and lecturer from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland.

Magdalena Mateja is a renowned expert in media studies and political communication. Her diverse research interests include persuasive communication, media genres (including online genres), visual communication and even intriguing topics such as political satire and the discourse of death in the media.

 

Lectures:

11 October, 17.00-18.30 lecture „Changes in the organization of work and professional standards of Polish journalists in connection with global crises (COVID pandemic and war in Ukraine)“. Baltojo kritiko kambarys (Obsto namai, Bernardinai str. 11).

12 October, 9.00-10.30 lecture „White, blue or red – what will voters choose? Visual communication of Polish political parties during the 2023 parliamentary campaign“. Room 208 (Saulėtekio al. 9, I building).

12 October, 11.00-12.30 lecture „The use of public media by the right-wing populist government for political propaganda and fighting the opposition (2015-2023)“. Room 208 (Saulėtekio al. 9, I building).

 

Since 2008, Magdalena Mateja has conducted classes with future journalists and promotion and advertising specialists. She co-created study programs in journalism and social communication, and for four years, she was the dean's representative for teaching.

The research has covered journalistic genres and formats, journalism, persuasive and visual communication, funeral discourse in the media, and the war in Ukraine and its associated actors. She participated in dozens of national and international scientific conferences.

This is a unique opportunity to gain insights into contemporary journalism, media studies and political communication. All students, scholars and anyone interested in these topics are welcome to attend.
