The strategic goal of the Faculty is to carry out high-level, cross-cutting research in the field of communication and information sciences (CIS), which would meet the objectives of the European Research Area, broaden the field of CIS research and create a foundation for CIS studies.

Today, the Faculty brings together the largest team of CIS researchers in Lithuania. Researchers in the affiliated units conduct basic and applied research, which is in line with three long-term research and experimental (social, cultural) development programmes of Vilnius University - Lithuanian Studies: philological, cultural and interdisciplinary aspects. Research and Development; Information and Communication in Traditional and Networked Societies; and Heritage.

The results of research are published in continuing journals, peer-reviewed monographs, periodicals and other publications in Lithuania and abroad, and presented at national and international scientific events.
